Andreas Papassotiropoulos is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist and since 2007 Professor of Molecular Neurosciences at the Faculty of Psychology and the Faculty of Medicine (UPK) at the University of Basel.

He was born and grew up in Greece, he completed his medical studies in Bonn. Together with his team, he examines the genetic and molecular basis of human memory in order to use this knowledge to develop better therapies for memory disorders. He is also interested in the molecular and neuronal basis of neuropsychiatric disorders, especially schizophrenia and posttraumatic stress disorder. He is recipient of several honors, a Robert Bing Prize, the Weizmann Reading and Cloetta Prize.
