Andreas Menrad

Dr. Andreas Menrad, Ph.D. served as the Chief Scientific Officer at Algeta ASA since August 2013. Dr. Menrad served as Chief Scientific Officer of Ablynx NV from February 14, 2012 to August 12, 2013. He headed up the research activities, and is responsible for the ongoing development of the Nanobody® platform, and identify and prioritise new therapeutic programmes. He has over 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, with significant expertise in drug discovery and the successful progression of lead candidates into pre-clinical development. He has an extensive experience in the fields of experimental dermatology, inflammation and oncology as well as antibody engineering. Prior to joining Ablynx, Dr. Menrad was at Genzyme for five years. Since 2011, Dr. Menrad held the position of General Manager and Vice President of Antibody Therapeutics at Genzyme's European Research site in Cambridge, UK. Prior to this, Dr. Menrad was Genzyme's Director of Research and Development. He spent 15 years at Schering AG in senior research roles focused on oncology and antibody engineering. He held positions as Project Team Leader and Director of Antibody Engineering and Anti-Angiogenesis Research at Schering AG. He serves as Member of Advisory Board at Scil Proteins GmbH. He is an author on more than 30 patents and more than 25 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Menrad graduated from the University of Stuttgart and a Ph.D. in Immunology from the University Stuttgart in 1989. In addition, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
