Dr. Stéphane Lambert is a professor of anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa and was the former head of the Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

Dr. Lambert obtained his MD in 1990 from McGill University in Montreal. Following a residency in family medicine, he completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Toronto, and he has been a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada since 1997. He did a clinical and research fellowship in cardiac anesthesia and perioperative echocardiography at the University of California, San Francisco, on a scholarship from the Samuel McLaughlin Foundation.
Dr. Lambert then practiced cardiac anesthesiology and critical care at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto for seven years before joining the Heart Institute in 2005.

Besides his clinical activities, Dr. Lambert is a past president of the Cardiovascular-Thoracic Section of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society. He has been a senior editor of the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia and an associate editor with Anesthesia & Analgesia. He also completed a master’s degree in business administration at Queen’s University in 2013.

Academically, he has contributed many chapters in prominent transesophageal echocardiography textbooks. He is a regular expert reviewer with anesthesiology journals. He has also been invited to present numerous lectures and workshops over the past 20 years, across Canada and internationally, including in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
