Anders Ahlsson MD, PhD

Dr. Anders Ahlsson was born in 1962 and is a senior physician in thoracic surgery and associate professor. He has been theme manager at Karolinska University Hospital since 2017 and before that has held a long series of senior positions at Örebro University Hospital, most recently as area manager of Heart Vessels and Diagnostics. Upon taking office on 1 October, Anders Ahlsson replaces Johan Bratt, who has been acting director of health and medical care since the representative Björn Eriksson became director general of the Swedish Medicines Agency on 22 March.

Dr. Anders Ahlsson has a strong foundation in healthcare and he knows what is required to continue developing Stockholm healthcare so that it is there in all stages of life for the residents and also continues to be a global leader. In his previous positions, Anders implemented changes that improved quality and accessibility. His research interests are Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Arrhythmia, Mitral Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, Atrial Fibrillation, and Cardiovascular Health Care.
