Mr. Shtaya is an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Neurosurgery at the St George's University of London and Atkinson Morley Neurosurgery Centre. He is actively involved in service improvement delivery, teaching, and management. During his Ph.D. and Post-doctoral fellowship Mr. Shtaya investigated the role of stem cells in epilepsy and traumatic brain injury. Mr. Shtaya and his team identified an important role for radial-glia progenitor cells after brain insults. Currently, he is collaborating with Dr. Atticus Hainsworth at the St George’s University of London. They are studying the inflammatory and anti-inflammatory pathways (M1 and M2) following brain injuries in general and spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage.
