Dr. Amy Starr has been a primary care pediatrician in Tyler for over 30 years, arriving after completing her residency at Children’s Medical Center and medical school at UT Southwestern in Dallas. Over the years, she has cared for multiple generations, with some of her original patients now bringing their children to her.
Dr. Starr's interest in hospice and palliative care grew from personal experiences during her training when such services were scarce. She began caring for children with life-limiting diagnoses referred by a former mentor and later partnered with Hospice of East Texas (HOET) to provide hospice care to pediatric patients, from perinatal cases to adolescents, either at home or in the HOET Homeplace facility. She is now also offering palliative care services.
Despite the challenges, Dr. Starr finds fulfillment in leading a team that supports families through their most difficult moments with care, education, and emotional support.
