Dr. Amy L. Ryan is an Associate Professor in Anatomy and Cell Biology and has co-directed the Center for Gene Therapy for CF with Dr. Engelhardt for the past 3 years. Dr. Ryan has served on the CF Foundations stem cell consortium for the past 7 years and brings innovation to the center through pluripotent stem cell models of human tissue development, with research focused on airway, intestinal, and pancreatic development. She has also developed the first ferret pluripotent stem cells, which have potential applications in preclinical models of autologous cell therapy. Her research program also develops and applies more complex 3D and tissue-level models, including organ-on-chip technology, to study the impact of the cellular niche on stem cell function. Dr. Ryan will lead the Precision Medicine Center for CF, capitalizing on the significant strengths and innovations in CF research at Iowa.
