Dr. D’Agata began her career in the NICU after witnessing the remarkable care provided to this population during an undergraduate clinical experience. As a result, she became inspired to focus her research and clinical career trajectories on improving both short and term outcomes for these patients and their families.
Her doctoral dissertation study was titled “Exploring the Relationship Between Genetic Variation of FKBP5 and Early Life Experience in the NICU”. This study provided the foundation for future work investigating neurodevelopmental associations with stress, pain and parent-infant separation experiences in the NICU, all of which have the potential for long-term consequences.
