Amy Degnim MD

Amy C. Degnim, M.D., has dedicated her career to caring for people with both benign and malignant breast disease. As a surgical oncologist, her work reflects a clear purpose: to provide exceptional care while shaping the future of breast surgery through education and research. Dr. Degnim led the development of Mayo Clinic's nationally recognized breast surgical oncology program and created the Multidisciplinary Breast Fellowship, serving as its initial Program Director.

Dr. Degnim's approach to breast surgery is grounded in precision, collaboration, and compassion, while delivering comprehensive care for people facing complex breast conditions.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Degnim leads research aimed at improving outcomes and preventing breast cancer. She directs the Mayo Clinic Benign Breast Disease Cohort, a landmark study involving approximately 15,000 women. This multidisciplinary effort explores histology, immunology, genomics, and mammographic changes to better predict individual cancer risk.

Since joining Mayo Clinic in 2003, she has combined surgical expertise with a deep commitment to advancing breast health. Today, she serves as a consultant in the Department of Surgery and holds the Joe M. and Ruth Roberts Professorship of Surgery at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
