Dr. Alman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the College of Public Health at the University of South Florida. She completed her graduate training (MSPH and PhD in Epidemiology) at the University of Colorado Denver. Her dissertation work involved investigating the associations between periodontal disease, a chronic lesion of bacterial origin of the soft tissue support of the teeth, and cardiovascular disease.
After completing her doctoral training, she was an instructor in the Colorado School of Public Health and a post-doctoral fellow at the Barbara Davis Center, University of Colorado Denver, to examine the relationships between inflammation, periodontal disease, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Her current research interests include the epidemiology of diabetes and cardiovascular disease, particularly the moderating and mediating roles of adiposity, inflammation, and infections.
