Dr. Ammar practices both emergency medicine and sport medicine. He completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine in 2005 and fellowship training in Sport Medicine in 2007 both at McGill University in Canada. He obtained his American Board of Emergency Medicine certification in 2007 and became a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians in 2012. He is currently practicing as a Senior Consultant Physician At The Emergency Department in Khoula hospital, the national trauma center in Oman.

He chairs a national committee for developing Emergency Medicine clinical services, which had an active role in setting standards related to the practice of Emergency Medicine in the country.

He is also a member of several hospital committees and national committees including the Sport Medicine committee and Research and Ethical Review & Approve committee.

Dr. Ammar is also involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate education. He is a senior clinical lecturer affiliated with the College of Medicine in Sultan Qaboos University. He is also an Associate Program Director for the OMSB Emergency Medicine training program and a member of the OMSB Accreditation committee for training programs. He also chairs the EM examination committee and is a member of the EM research committee and EM simulation committee for residency training.
