Dr. Amjad Shad is a Consultant Neurosurgeon in Coventry and has been a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust since 2004. During his training in Edinburgh, Oxford, and the USA he gained extensive experience in spinal conditions, including complex spinal problems and pain relief. Through his research, Mr. Shad has developed a new technique to treat cervical disc problems. This offers patients an alternative to the traditional method of harvesting grafts from the hip bone, which can be painful. This new technique has improved post-operative recovery rates in most patients.

Where possible, Mr. Shad performs disc replacement surgery rather than disc fusion, a procedure used to alleviate the symptoms caused by damaged discs. This surgical procedure uses a new medical device designed to replace the disc which sits between the spinal vertebrae. The disc which is damaged or diseased is surgically removed and replaced by an artificial disc prosthesis which features a ball and socket design to preserve motion.
