Amitava Dasgupta received his undergraduate education in India and came to the US in 1980. He received his PhD in Chemistry from Stanford University and completed his Clinical Chemistry/Toxicology fellowship from The University of Washington at Seattle. His first faculty appointment was at The University of Chicago as the Assistant Professor of Pathology. Dr. Dasgupta directs clinical chemistry, toxicology and point of care services at the Laboratory Services of Memorial Hermann-TMC. In addition he is also the Medical Director of the limited services laboratory of the TIRR-Memorial Hospital. More recently in October 2008, he assumed the responsibility of the director of the HPLC Drug Monitoring Laboratory in the Division of Immunology and Organ Transplantation.
Dr. Dasgupts’s research interest is in the field of toxicology. He is on the editorial board of American Journal of Clinical Pathology, Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Clinica Chimica Act and Journal of Clinical Laboratory Medicine. He has published over 175 papers in peer reviewed journals, many book chapters and edited four books as well as written two books. In 2009 he received Irvine Sunshine Award from the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology for his outstanding contributions in clinical toxicology research.
