Amerian D. Sones, DMD, MS relocated to Dallas, Texas in 2011, from Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties, California. After 28 years in private practice, she currently is an Associate Professor, at Texas A&M University, College of Dentistry (formerly Baylor College of Dentistry) serving as Executive Director, Continuing Education, Director of Dental Oncology, and the Center for Maxillofacial Prosthodontics, and prosthodontic faculty in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry for the Advanced Education General Dentistry Residency Program.

A 1979 graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine serving the US Public Health Service from 1979-1981 as Chief Dental Officer for the Tohono O’odham Tribe in Sells, Arizona, she managed a six chair dental clinic/staff as well as satellite clinics which served the remote population located 60 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona. She also served the Havasupai Indians in the depths of the Grand Canyon.

Sones attended UCLA School of Dentistry, postgraduate prosthodontics from 1981-1983, and maxillofacial prosthodontics also at UCLA, 1984. She was full-time faculty at UCLA, School of Dentistry in the Department of Removable Prosthodontics and chairperson of several courses from 1984-1987. In addition, she completed an Oral Biology master's with her research entitled “Osteoporosis in the Sprague-Dawley Rat” an animal study that was published in Calcified Tissue International, 1986. Microbiology and virology research with herpes virus/acyclovir therapy was published, in “Therapeutic Efficacy of 5-Ethyl-2-Deoxyuridine on Orofacial and Ganglionic HSV infection in Hairless Mice” in Dental Research March 1985. While at UCLA, she was involved with the first implant training center on the west coast and initially organized the first “Brånemark Implant Team” (1986) lecturing and providing numerous hands-on courses at UCLA and in the community regarding dental implants working directly with Professor P-I Brånemark. Her publication “Complications of Dental Implants” was one of the first noted articles on the topic of complications in the literature, JPD, November 1989.

In 1987, Dr. Sones began her private practice of prosthodontics and dental implant treatment. She has owned, operated, and sold two solo private prosthodontics practices in California and continues to provide the most complex prosthodontic dental oncology and dental implant therapy for patients in the Dallas, Texas metroplex. She is a Life Member of the American Dental Association, a past member of the California Dental Association and now the Texas Dental Association, a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontics, a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, Fellow of the American College of Dentists, Fellow of the Academy of Osseointegration, Vice-President of the Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics, and President-Elect of the Academy of Osseointegration. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and received her AO Certificate in Implant Dentistry in January 2020.
