Amber Donnelly is the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Professor in the Masters of Diagnostic Cytology Program in the College of Allied Health Professions at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She served as the Cytotechnology Program Director at UNMC for 20 years. Her approach to education, creating satellite locations across the United States, led to UNMC’s program being internationally recognized as a leader in distance education and innovative technology.

Dr. Donnelly is the outgoing Chair of the Cytotechnology Programs Review Committee, which oversees the accreditation of all Cytology programs in the United States. She has served as chair and member of many national committees and was previously elected to serve as an executive board member for two national organizations, the American Society of Cytopathology, and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

Because of her expertise and passion for cytology education, she has been invited to speak on many occasions locally, nationally, and internationally. Dr. Donnelly has published many articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has been granted several national awards for educational research. In addition, she has presented many peer-reviewed abstracts, posters, and oral presentations at national conferences. She has also traveled to volunteer and explore online educational opportunities in several locations around the world such as Vietnam, Peru, Rwanda, and Madagascar. Her dream is to be able to offer UNMC’s cytology program worldwide via distance education.
