Amanda Suarez Evans MD

Dr. Amanda Evans received her undergraduate degree at UT Austin and did her medical training at UT Medical Branch in Galveston. After medical school, she completed a residency in pediatrics at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, and a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at UT Southwestern. In 2012, Dr. Evans joined the Pediatrics faculty at UT Southwestern in the Division of Infectious Diseases.

Her interests include the pathogenesis of respiratory diseases in children. She is exploring viral and bacterial co-infection interactions in a human cell tissue model, and the subsequent dynamic changes that occur within the bacterial pathogens which influence virulence and attachment. Her current research project involves a Moraxella catarrhalis/RSV in vitro co-infection model, which aims to identify M. catarrhalis adherence or virulence factors involved in the pathogenesis of acute otitis media, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic or prophylactic targets for this bacterium.
