Dr Amanda Bye is a Research Associate in the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London. Amanda joined King’s College London in 2010, before transferring to UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health where she undertook her PhD. She re-joined King’s College London in 2014 and has worked across a range of studies on maternal and adolescent health. She is currently working on an MRC/MRF-funded study, led by Dr Rina Dutta, investigating the impact of social media and smartphone use on self-harm in young people (the 3S-YP study).
Amanda’s doctoral research was a multi-method study exploring the challenges of identifying and managing pregnant and postnatal women with eating disorders in maternity and health visiting services, from the perspectives of women with lived experience and health professionals. The findings led to a collaborative project with Dr Abigail Easter to co-produce web-based training on eating disorders for health professionals caring for pregnant and postnatal women. This project was supported by The Health Foundation and King’s Improvement Science, part of the Centre for Implementation Science within the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration South London (NIHR ARC South London) at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Amanda has taught the Perinatal Mental Health module for the BSc Midwifery course at the University of Surrey and has co-supervised students carrying out research projects within their iBSc and MSc programs.
