Amalio Telenti joined Scripps Research in November 2017 as professor of Genomics in the Department of Integrative Structural and Computational Biology, and as a chief data scientist at Scripps Research Translational Institute. Previous to these appointments, he was a chief scientific officer at Human Longevity, Inc. where he led the analysis of the first 10,000 deep sequenced human genomes, as well as the definition of a map of conservation and organization of the regulatory structures in the human genome and a catalog of the human essential genes. Prior to joining Human Longevity, Telenti was a faculty member of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland where he established a program of host-pathogen genomics.
He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Center for Integrative Genomics, University of Lausanne, of the Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and of the Swiss Personalized Health Network. Telenti graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oviedo, Spain, and has a doctorate in microbiology from the University of Zaragoza, Spain. He carried out his medical training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Telenti is an elected member of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences.
