Dr. Alvin F. Wells earned his MD from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, FL, and completed his PhD in immunology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, SC. Before moving to the Emerald Coast, Dr. Wells served as the Midwest Regional Director of the Department of Rheumatology for Advocate Aurora Medical Group in Illinois and Wisconsin. Additionally, he currently holds positions as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Duke University Medical Center and as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
With over 20 years of research experience focused on inflammatory disorders, Dr. Wells is dedicated to managing and treating various aspects of rheumatology. He is praised for his innovative methods in treatment, particularly in his use of ultrasound in clinical practice for intra-articular joint injections. His expertise is recognized internationally, and he is a sought-after speaker, having authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, letters, book chapters, and abstracts.
Dr. Wells is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the American College of Rheumatology and has received several prestigious awards, including the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and the American College of Rheumatology Research Award. He has also been supported by grants from the Arthritis Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
