Prof. Alois Saria of the Innsbruck Medical University has been working as the sole representative of Austria in the management area of the project consortium. He is in the pioneering project to coordinate the training of around 500 to 1,000 PhD students, develop new training models and curricula, and build a new distance learning platform for young scientists. In the project beyond other scientists from Austria will participate. The renowned brain researcher Prof. Peter Jonas from the Institute of Science and Technology Austria in Klosterneuburg will generate essential data from the hippocampus, which are then incorporated into the simulation model.

Prof. Wolfgang Maass, head of the Institute of Theoretical Information Processing Graz University of Technology, manages the "Human Brain Project" exploring the "Principles of Brain Computation". The researchers first need to understand the operation of typical circuits of neurons: "We work with supercomputer simulations that integrate an unprecedented wealth of individual experimental results," said Maass.
