Almantas Maleckas MD, PhD

Prof. Almantas Maleckas is Lithuanian, he’s a pioneer in laparoscopic surgery in Eastern Europe. During his career, he performed over 3500 bariatric surgeries.

Prof. Maleckas was trained for bariatric surgery in 2001, in Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden. 6 years later he established an International Bariatric Training center in Kaunas Medical University Hospital, back in Lithuania. In 2007 Dr. Almantas Maleckas also started learning Laparoscopic Esophageal resection and Thoracoscopic procedures at Pitsburg Medical University, USA.

He is currently working in the Surgery Clinic at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in Kaunas and the Salghrenska University in Gothenborg. A.Maleckas currently also is a consultant bariatric surgeon in the Ministry of Health and Preventive Medicine, United Arab Emirates. In 2015 Prof. A.Maleckas graduated London School of Economics and Political Science obtaining a Master of Science degree in Health Economics, Policy and Management. He is the President of the Lithuanian Bariatric Surgery Society.
