Dr. Anderson is a 1976 graduate of University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopaedics at Vanderbilt University and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in general orthopaedics. He also has a certificate of added qualification for Sports Medicine.

A specialist in sports medicine with a keen interest in knee injury and ligament reconstruction, Dr. Anderson was influenced by his years as an athlete and by Dr. Brant Lipscomb, Sr., a pioneer in sports medicine, whom he considers his mentor. Dr. Anderson has a thorough understanding of the unique needs of athletes with regard to treatment and prevention of injuries. He participated in a variety of youth athletics, including baseball, football, track and wrestling. He was captain of his high school football team and a TSSAA football AllStar. He was voted Most Athletic. During his college years, he participated in athletics at the University of Tennessee.

In an effort to continuously improve patient care, Dr. Anderson has continued to perform research and publish scientific articles. He published 4 scientific articles in 2012 and 2013, bringing a total to more than 80 scientific articles published in sports medicine books and various sports medicine journals. He has also had 20 scientific exhibits at National and International orthopaedic meetings. At the 2012 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Meeting, he presented an award-winning video on Transepiphyseal, Physeal Sparing, ACL Reconstruction. He was also involved in a symposium on Pediatric Sports Medicine. At the AAOS Specialty Day in 2012, Dr. Anderson presented another symposium on ACL Reconstruction in Skeletally Immature Athletes.
