Alison Holmes is a Professor of Infectious Diseases and Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC) for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Professor Holmes is the Director of the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in Healthcare Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance. Together with Public Health England Lead Alan Johnson, Professor Holmes directs the work of 4 themes: Applied molecular bacteriology, Applied data linkage, syndromic surveillance and modelling, Innovations in behaviour change, technology and patient safety to improve infection prevention and antimicrobial use and Organisational change, health economics, sustainability and evaluation. The HPRU, which was established on 1 April 2014, is a partnership between Imperial College London, Public Health England, Cambridge University Veterinary School, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and Imperial College Health Partners North West London Academic Health Science Network.
