Dr. Alice Mezincescu was born in Bucharest, Romania and she obtained her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ‘Carol Davila’ in her hometown. She was awarded first-class honours for her Bachelor's Degree dissertation. After graduating she moved to the United Kingdom where she trained in the Oxford and Wales deaneries.
Dr. Mezincescu has been a member of the Royal College of Physicians since 2013 and she completed her Core Cardiology Training in 2016 after passing the European Exam in General Cardiology (KBA formerly). Afterwards, she has taken time out of the clinical training programme in order to study full-time for a PhD within the Cardiology and Diabetes Centre at the University of Aberdeen. Using novel magnetic resonance spectroscopy, her PhD project is looking to establish if an exercise intervention (training/detraining) in two groups of volunteers (diabetic patients/endurance-trained healthy volunteers) influences the skeletal muscle saturated lipid storage and how this is linked with cardio-metabolic health.
Dr. Mezincescu’s main interests are Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and Interventional Cardiology. Following the completion of her PhD, she is hoping to combine a successful clinical career with an academic one.
