Prof. Dr. med. Ali Canbay, born in 1969 in Malatya / Turkey, received his license as a doctor in 1997 at the Ruhr-University Bochum. From 2001 to 2003 he was a DAAD fellowship in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (Minnesota, USA) and was selected as the best young scientist of the Mayo Clinic in 2004 and was awarded the Edward Kendall Award.
In 2007, Prof. Canbay the Venia Legendi for the subject "internal medicine" at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Since 2007, he has been a senior physician in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University Hospital in Essen, where he received the additional title of "Internistische Intensivmedizin" (2008) and the focus on "Gastroenterology" (2010). In 2010, he was appointed an extraordinary professor.
