Dr. Laungani received his medical degree with “High distinction” in 2008 from the University of Liege, in Liege Belgium. He then completed the very competitive plastic surgery 6-year residency program in Liege, Belgium which he graduated in 2014.
Following this training, he was invited to join the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where he worked in a microsurgical lab, leading to new findings advancing the field. Because he is a perfectionist striving to always be better, he completed a second 6-year residency in one of the most prestigious plastic surgery programs in the USA at the Mayo Clinic.
During these more than 20 years of medical training, Dr. Laungani has always had the goal of providing quality care to trans people. Professor Monstery (Ghent, Belgium) was one of his first mentors, followed by Dr. Brassard with whom he has worked closely since 2015.
Dr. Laungani has also held leadership positions with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). He remains an active member and a staunch defender of the rights of trans people. He has also been part of the teaching faculty of the Mayo Clinic, together with Dr. Brassard, for the course entitled "Principles of Care of the Transgender and Intersex patients" since 2017. Dr. Laungani is committed to the mission of ensuring that the next generation of healthcare providers have the right training to provide the surgical care that trans patients deserve.
