Alexandre Rotta, MD, FCCM, FAAP, is Chief of the Division of Pediatric Critical Care and the Linsalata Family Chair in Pediatric Critical Care and Emergency Medicine at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. He also is Professor, Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Dr. Rotta is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical care. His special interests include pediatric critical care, cardiac critical care, mechanical ventilation and acute lung injury.

A native of Brazil, Dr. Rotta earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Colégio Farroupilha, Porto Alegre, Brazil, and his doctorate in medicine from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul School of Medicine, also in Porto Alegre. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Detroit, Mich., where he was Chief Resident in his final year of training. He completed a fellowship in pediatric critical care at The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo, N.Y.

Dr. Rotta was appointed to the Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital medical staff in 2013. He has authored or coauthored more than two dozen textbook chapters and nearly 150 papers and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals, primarily about mechanical ventilation in infants and children. He also is a frequent invited presenter at medical meetings and symposia across the United States and internationally, including several presentations at Beijing Children’s Hospital, Beijing, China as well as many at hospitals and universities in his native Brazil. He is a reviewer for many of the leading medical journals in his field, including Critical Care Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and the Journal of Critical Care.

Dr. Rotta is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society of Critical Care Medicine and a member of The Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society and the American Association for Respiratory Care.
