Dr. Alexander Outhred is a clinical microbiologist at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney, Australia. He previously worked and trained at facilities in Australia including Concord Repatriation General Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Royal Darwin Hospital, and the Institute for Clinical Pathology and Medical Research. His major research interests involve whole genome sequencing of pathogens to investigate antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, infection dynamics, and transmission, and he is affiliated with the Marie Bashir Institute of Sydney University, and the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Tuberculosis Control.
