Prof. Dr. medical Alexander Leber is a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology. He completed his studies at the Universities of Erlangen, Rennes, and Cape Town. From 1998 - 2008 he worked clinically and scientifically at the Klinikum Großhadern of the LMU Munich. Most recently, he headed the cardiac imaging group and worked as an interventional cardiologist. From 2004 - 2005 he was on a research stay at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, where he was involved in the further development of magnetic resonance and computer tomography for the display of heart diseases. In 2007 he habilitated and in 2014 he was appointed APL professor in the subject of internal medicine at the LMU Munich.

In 2011, he accepted an Associate Professorship and Directorship of the Institute for Cardiac Imaging and Intervention Research at the Sunnybrook Health Science Center at the University of Toronto. His specialization there was the treatment of coronary artery disease and acute myocardial infarction using cardiac catheters and he was one of the main implanters of minimally invasive catheter-based aortic valves (TAVI). He has also served as a TAVI implantation instructor at various Canadian clinics. Scientifically, Prof. Dr. Leber is involved in the further development of non-invasive imaging with CT and MRT as well as in the image-supported therapy of heart diseases and has written more than 300 abstracts and original articles as an author and co-author.

Prof. Dr. Leber is a member of numerous professional societies and spokesman for the Cardio CT working group of the German Society of Cardiology.

Since June 2013 Prof. Dr. Leber Director of the Isar Heart Center at the Isar Klinikum.
