Dr. Alessio La Manna, MD, is the Director at Policlinico University Hospitals. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Catania. He has been working as a consultant interventional cardiologist at Ferrarotto Hospital since 2002. In the last seven years, he has been also in charge of the management of the Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Clinical Program at the Department of Cardiovascular Disease of Ferrarotto University Hospital.
His clinical practice and research interests are focused on the assessment of new coronary devices with optical coherence tomography, the treatment of chronic total occlusion, the application of stress CMR for the evaluation of myocardial ischemia, the percutaneous treatment of aortic valve stenosis (TAVI) and recently, the use of bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS) for the treatment of complex coronary lesions such as CTOs.
As Level 3 CMR certified cardiologist in charge, he has contributed to the development of a strong collaboration with the Radiology Unit at Vittorio Emanuele Hospital in Catania setting the first in- and outpatient-based CMR services in the Catania area which currently runs five CMR sessions per week, two of which are dedicated to stress CMR, in particular for the assessment of patients with CTO and the long term outcome of patients treated with complex PCI. As part of our research activity, we are part of the EuroCMR Registry.
