Alessia Gimelli is the Head of the Nuclear Cardiology Unit, Fondazione Toscana G. Monasterio (FTGM), Pisa, Italy (2010-current) and she has been leading the Nuclear Cardiology clinical training program from 2012 at the University of Pisa, Italy. She is a cardiologist and nuclear medicine specialist. Since January 2023, she has been the Editor-in-Chief of European Heart Journal – Imaging Methods and Practice, the new open-access journal of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, edited by OUP.
In 2021 she won the Women As One - 2022 ESCALATOR AWARDS as a Mentor and in October 2019 she won the ESC grant and attended the Women Transforming Leadership Programme (WTLP) run by the Saïd Business School of the University of Oxford (UK).
Her previous involvement in the ESC includes board member of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging during 4 terms (first as councilor, second as Vice-Chair of the Nuclear Cardiology and cardiac CT section, then as Chair of the Nuclear Cardiology and cardiac CT section and Vice-President, and finally as Treasurer), member of the ESC Advocacy Committee, member of the ESC Congress Programme Committee, member of the ESC Media Committee, and member of various Task Forces (EACVI Task Force on Governance, ESC/ EACVI joint Task Force on regulatory governance of diagnostic imaging devices - CT/ Nuclear Imaging, EACVI Task Force on Women). She is currently a board member of the ESC Nominating Committee.
She has deep experience in clinical research on cardiovascular diseases and cardiovascular imaging and has contributed to several international high-profile projects.
