Prof. Alessandro Parolari is Head of the University Cardiac Surgery and Translational Research Unit at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato and Full Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Milan. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1988 in Parma and in 1993 he specialized in Cardiac Surgery at the University of Milan.

From 1997 to 1998 he held the Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland (Ohio, USA) and, in 1999, the Ph.D. in Cardiothoracic Surgical Pathophysiology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Prof. Parolari has been working at the Monzino Cardiology Center since 1993, first as a research assistant until he became Head of the Clinical Research Unit in Atherothrombosis and senior assistant in Cardiac Surgery. Since 2015 at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, he has performed all adult heart surgery operations, in particular valve, coronary and aortic surgery. He has over 3,000 first operator interventions to his credit.

He has to his credit 222 scientific publications reviewed in SCOPUS, of these 194 publications with an Impact Factor for a total IF of 887 and an average of 4.6. The total number of citations of scientific publications is 4268; the h-index is 36 (Scopus). He is an Established Reviewer for the leading adult cardiovascular surgery journals and Associate Editor for cardiac surgery for the Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine. He is also a member of the Editorial Committee of the Italian Journal of Cardiology and Academic Editor of PLOS ONE.

Prof. Parolari from 2013 to 2020 held the position of Scientific Secretary of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery; since 2017 he is President of the Board of Directors of the Cuore Domani SICCH Research ONLUS Foundation, from 2018 to 2020 President of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery.
