Alessandro Giamberti MD

Dr. Alessandro Giamberti is Head of the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Congenital Adult Cardiac Surgery Units at the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato in Milan and Adjunct Professor in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at the School of Specialization in Cardiac Surgery of the University of Brescia. After graduating in Medicine and Surgery at the La Sapienza University of Rome, he moved to the University of Bologna, where he specialized in Cardiac Surgery. In the two-year period 1990-1991, he was the winner of the FEDERSPEV prize in surgical sciences and the Donatelli Prize in Cardiac Surgery.

Before arriving at the San Donato Polyclinic in 2000, he worked at the Marie Lannelongue Hospital in Paris, the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome, and the Heart Hospital in London. Very active in the international arena, he collaborates as a consultant Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon with the Central Oil Workers Hospital in Azerbaijan, the Children's Hospital of Cairo in Egypt, the Djidjine Cardiovascular Institute in Belgrade in Serbia, and with the St. Elisabeth General Catholic Hospital in Cameroon, where he was also Chairman of the Board of Directors.

The activity of Dr. Alessandro Giamberti ranges from the treatment of adult congenital heart diseases, such as the operation of Fontan, the surgical implantation of the pulmonary valve in the Tetralogy of Fallot, and the Surgery of Cardiac Arrhythmias, to the treatment of more complex neonatal pathologies. such as arterial switch and Norwood surgery for hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Since 2017 he has developed a minimally invasive surgery program for congenital heart disease. He is the author of over 130 international scientific papers, 3 monographs, 3 book chapters.

He is a member of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery (SICCH), of the Italian Society of Pediatric Cardiology (SICP), of the European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons (EACTS), of the World Society for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery (WSPCHS), of the American Association of Thoracic Surgery (AATS) and is Nucleus Member of the Working Group on Congenital Adult of the European Society of Cardiology. He is the Scientific Director of the Italian Adult Congenital Heart Disease Association (AICCA).
