Alekyan Bagrat Gegamovich, born on April 15, 1951, in Yerevan (Armenia) to a family of public servants. He is married and has a daughter. In 1968, he entered the Faculty of Medicine at the Yerevan State Medical Institute. After graduation (1974), he moved permanently to Moscow and from February 1975 to June 2016 onwards he worked in the Department of Interventional Diagnostics and Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases at the Bakoulev Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery.
Since June 2016, he has currently the Director of scientific work at the Vishnevsky Institute of Surgery. In 1980, he defended his thesis on “Coronary arteries, hemodynamics and myocardial contractile function in patients with coronary heart disease and postinfarction myocardial sclerosis in terms of surgical treatment”. In 1986, he defended his doctoral thesis on “Modern diagnostic aspects of complete transposition of great vessels according to interventional diagnostics”. The main direction of scientific research – interventional diagnostics and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Since 2005, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Since 2011 – academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Since 2013, an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2012, a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. Member of the editorial boards and the editorial boards of the following journals: “Creative Cardiology”, “Cardiovascular Pathology in children”, “Clinical and experimental surgery n.a. Academician B.V. Petrovski”, “Complex Problems of Cardiovascular Diseases”.
