Dr. Alejandro Alejandro obtained his MD from the Universidade Federal Fluminese in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992, and completed his residency in internal medicine at the Federal University of Sao Paulo. He subsequently joined the Georgetown University Program in Internal Medicine at The Washington Hospital Center, where he received the Saul Zukerman, M.D., Humanitarianism in Medicine Award. Dr. Ayala obtained his clinical training in Endocrinology at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, followed by a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda , Maryland where he continued for the next five years as staff clinician, clinical investigator and faculty of the NIH Endocrinology training program.
During this time, Dr. Ayala research interests are related to Neruoendocrinology, Pituitary and Adrenal Disorders. His research interests include hyperaldosteronism, Cushing¹s syndrome and pheocromocytoma, areas in which he has authored more than two dozen peer-reviewed articles and written a number of book chapters.
