Prof. Dr. Albrecht Lommatzsch is a Head at the St. Franziska Hospiral Munster. Prof. Dr. Albrecht Lommatzsch was born in Berlin in 1962 and studied medicine at the Charité Berlin. He received his specialist training at the University Eye Clinic in Essen, where he also worked as a senior physician in retinology. In 1997 he began working at the eye center at the St. Franziskus Hospital in Münster.

His ophthalmological specialty is retinology with the entire spectrum of vitreous and retinal surgery. In 2011 he habilitated at the medical faculty at the University of Essen-Duisburg on the subject of “pigment epithelial detachment in age-related macular degeneration”. The scientific focus of his work is in the field of age-related macular degeneration and retinal surgery.

After numerous publications and scientific lectures, he was awarded the APL professorship at the University of Essen-Duisburg in 2017. Prof. Dr. Lommatzsch is a member of the major ophthalmological professional societies. In 2016 he was awarded the gold medal of honor by the DOC and has been listed among the top ophthalmologists in FOCUS since 2014.
