Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, MD is the Founding Dean and Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences. He was also a consultant cardiologist cardiac electrophysiologist and Chairman of the Institute of Cardiac Sciences at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine (adjunct) at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA, USA. Dr. Alsheikh-Ali is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA, USA), Boston University (Boston, MA, USA), and Tufts University School of Medicine (Boston, MA, USA). He completed his internship, residency, and fellowships at Tufts Medical Center (Boston, MA, USA). He is American-board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Diseases, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Aside from his active clinical practice focusing on heart rhythm conditions.
Dr. Alsheikh-Ali is an accomplished clinical researcher and is the recipient of the Abu Dhabi Medical Distinction Award in Clinical Research. His research interests span a wide spectrum in cardiovascular disease including cardiac electrophysiology, preventive cardiology, and the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease in the Arab world. He is an active member of the cardiovascular research community in the Gulf region and is on the steering committees of several regional registries including prospective multicenter studies of atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and acute coronary syndrome. He is the co-principal Investigator of the Gulf ICD Registry. His research has resulted in numerous peer‐reviewed publications in leading scientific journals including the Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, Circulation, and Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
