Alan M Hirahara, MD, FRCSC is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic shoulder surgery and sports medicine. He runs a busy private practice in Sacramento, California. He speaks and teaches nationally and internationally, arthroscopic shoulder surgery, orthobiologics, and the use of ultrasound. His research on arthroscopic shoulder surgery, orthobiologics, and ultrasound has been presented around the world. He is board certified in both orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine in both the United States and Canada. He is the medical director and team physician for California State University, Sacramento Athletics; team physician for the Sacramento River Cats; and consultant for the Oakland A’s. He has been the team physician for all the NCAA championships and Olympic Trials here in Sacramento since 2001. He serves on the health policy & procedures committee for the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He did his fellowship training in orthopaedic sports medicine at the University of Toronto under Dr. Anthony Miniaci. He completed his residency training in orthopaedic surgery in French at l'Université de Montréal. He attended medical school at UCSF and completed his BS in Kinesiology at UCLA with College Honors, Departmental Honors, Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
