Dr. Alan Janssen is the Emergency Department Medical Director at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, MI. He also is chair of COMAT Department of Emergency Medicine and the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners; and a Review committee member of the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education. He is a member of the Emergency Medicine Executive Committee, College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University; member graduate medical education committee of ACOEP; board member American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine; oral board examiner, American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine; lead Program Director, Michigan State University Statewide Campus System; Educational Standards Committee Member, Statewide Campus System, Michigan State University. Dr. Janssen also is involved in emergency medicine resident education and lectures on numerous topics at the state and national level. He is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at both the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is an adjunct clinical professor at Kirksville College Osteopathic Medicine.
During his career, Dr. Janssen has received numerous awards for teaching, including the Grand Blanc Chamber of Commerce Health Professional Hero Award, the Janice A. Wachtler Educator of the Year Award from ACOEP, and the Michigan College of Emergency Physician's Excellence in Teaching Award. He earned his medical degree from Kirkville College of Osteopathic Medicine. After medical school, he completed his emergency medicine residency at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. He has served as the Emergency Medicine Residency Director at Genesys since 1996. Dr. Janssen also takes pride in serving his community service as a reserve officer in the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, where he is also a tactical physician and medical director of the special response SWAT team.
