Alan Grossman

We use a combination of genetic, molecular, physiological, biochemical, cell-biological, and genomic approaches to study how cells of Bacillus subtilis sense internal and external conditions and control basic cellular processes in response to these conditions. We are interested in defining signals that are sensed and characterizing signal transduction and the regulatory outputs. We are studying mechanisms controlling cell-cell signaling, gene expression, development, DNA replication, chromosome dynamics, and horizontal gene transfer.
