The bulk of my research is aimed at adapting new technologies in the aerosol field to patient care. In the past, our work has led to a change to more efficient nebulizer systems for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF) throughout the country and our current research will look at adapting the latest technologies in order to shorten treatment time and, hopefully, improve adherence to recommended therapy by reducing time commitments necessary. Other aerosol work has involved lung gene delivery systems for use in larger animals and the characterization of the technical specification necessary for large scale measles immunization by the World Health Organization. We continue to have ongoing collaborative work with colleagues in the SickKids Emergency Department and we are currently working with colleagues at the University of Tours, France to develop an aerosol vaccine formulation protective against human papilloma virus, the cause of cervical cancer. We also have an ongoing interest with the role of exercise and exercise testing in cystic fibrosis.
