Alaa Alghamry, M.B., B.Ch., AMC, FRACP is General Medicine and Stroke Consultant at The Prince Charles Hospital. He is also a senior lecturer at the University of QLD and a member of the European Stroke Organisation, the World Stroke Organisation, The Stroke Society of Australasia, and the Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand. He has been recently awarded the Internal Medicine Society clinical award at The Prince Charles Hospital in 2017 and nominated for the Leader of the Year award by the University of QLD.

Dr. Alghamry received his Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery in Egypt before moving to Australia where he started his medical practice career in QLD Health. He has been trained at Redcliffe Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital, and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He was awarded the General Medicine Advanced Training Scholarship (GMATS) for the second and third years of his General Medicine Advanced Training.

Dr. Alghamry's special research interests focus on AF, Cardiac biomarkers, Gastrointestinal bleeding, and Anticoagulation in Stroke related to AF. He has investigated the value of troponin elevation in patients with AF, and Iron Deficiency Anaemia in the context of widespread NOAC use. He has a special interest in Gastroenterology specifically GIT bleeding and ideal timing of bowel preparation for Colonoscopy. He also authored the Hepatic Encephalopathy chapter in Oxford Desk Reference for Critical Care. Dr. Alghamry presented his work at multiple national and international conferences.
