Dr. Akshay Shetty received his BS in biomedical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He completed medical school at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta State University and completed his residency in internal medicine at Emory University. This was followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Medical University of South Carolina, and he then came to the University of California, Los Angeles, for his transplant hepatology fellowship. He is board-certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology.
Dr. Shetty specializes in general and transplant hepatology with a special interest in alcohol-related liver disease and metabolic syndrome-associated liver disease. His philosophy as a physician is to practice patient-centered medicine in a caring and supportive environment. As a hepatology specialist, he is committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective health care to help patients with all types of liver disease achieve the best possible quality of life.
