Dr. Aki J. Hietaharju received his university degrees and medical training at the University of Tampere, Tampere, Finland. He completed specialist training in neurology in 1991. He currently works as a Chief of the Neurological Outpatient Clinic at Tampere University Hospital and also acts as Adjunct Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, University of Tampere. His clinical and research interest focuses on connective tissue diseases, immune-mediated neuropathies, leprosy, and neuropathic pain. He was chair of the Scientific Program Committee of The 6th International Congress on Neuropathic Pain, Gothenburg, Sweden, 2017. He has been a member of the NeuPSIG (Special Interest Group on Neuropathic Pain of the International Association for the Study of Pain) Management Committee since 2012 and is currently the vice-chair of this committee.
