Akbar Alinani is a Director of Global Procurement for Bristol-Myers Squibb supporting R&D. Akbar’s career includes more than 20 years of strategic sourcing experience covering direct and indirect categories. He has a proven track record of building and leading high-performing global teams and delivering innovative solutions and exceptional business results in life sciences industry. In his current role, Akbar is responsible for Bristol-Myers Squibb R&D Ops. Portfolio, which entails global lab operations procurement including all the consumables, reagents, capital equipment expenditures, lab equipment maintenance and calibration services.

He has successfully delivered change-driven procurement strategies and continuous improvement initiatives with research models & partnered with pre-clinical/tox. CRO’s supporting early discovery and pharmaceutical development. His current efforts include the corporate launch of RFID technology for supply chain efficiencies supporting the cold chain managed bio-reagents for R&D. Akbar has successfully delivered out of box thinking in supplier diversity & sustainability – partnering with key preferred suppliers to drive innovation, increase the supplier diversity spend, improve the sustainability footprint & implement recycling programs to reduce our packaging waste stream.

Prior to joining Bristol-Myers Squibb, Akbar lead a team of category strategy managers supporting biotech manufacturing of direct production materials and contract manufacturing spend for Wyeth/Pfizer. Akbar also led the site procurement excellence team comprised of category strategy managers, site procurement leads, buyers and analysts managing the strategy development and execution for global CAPEX and indirect categories for North America & Puerto Rico.
