Ajay Nair PhD

Ajay Nair is an Associate Research Scientist at Columbia University in the City of New York. Ajay Nair's work focuses on identifying and studying the regulatory mechanisms in cells. Specifically, he harnesses the power of machine learning algorithms and statistical methods and applies them to high-throughput biological data to understand cell regulation. His current focus is to understand the aberrant regulatory mechanisms in cancer.

Nair's Ph.D. thesis identified methods to a) incorporate prior biological information efficiently while inferring regulatory networks from data, and b) transfer regulatory interactions from well-studied organisms to other organisms. He has also worked on dynamical models of cell regulatory networks, the evolution of photosynthetic apparatus, and the conservation of glycosylation in different domains of life.
