ijaz Hussain Soomro, obtained the DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree in 1993, M.Sc. degree in Dairy Technology in 1996 from Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam. He was awarded GRE based PhD fellowship by UGC/HEC in 2001 and he completed PhD in Food Technology with specialization in Food Microbiology from University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi in 2006. Dr. Soomro has the honor to be the first PhD in Food Technology from University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi. He worked on the characterization of wild strains of Lactic acid bacteria. Dr. Soomro received the award for postdoctoral fellowship from HEC in 2009 and Endeavor research fellowship in 2014. He worked in the laboratory of Dr. Mark Turner (University of Queensland, Australia). He conducted research on the role of spx genes in the stress resistance in the cheese fermentation bacterium Lactococcus lactis. At present he is working as Professor and Director of Institute of Food Sciences and Technology, Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam, Pakistan.

Dr. Soomro co-authored a book chapter entitled “Molecular mechanisms of stress resistance in Lactococcus lactis” in Current Research, Technology and Education Topics in Applied Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology and has more than 50 publications in his credit published in international and national journals of repute. He attended various conferences and workshops and is a member of many professional societies and statutory bodies. Dr. Soomro has distinguished career in research, extension and teaching, with broad experience in Dairy & Meat Technology, Food Microbiology and Food Safety particularly in alternative approaches to teaching and outreach programs, in recent advances and future trends in Food Science and Technology.
