Ahmed Albusoda MD, PhD

Dr. Albusoda is a gastroenterologist with training in gastroenterology, endoscopy, and ultrasound. He has taken extensive training in neuro-gastroenterology providing him with expertise in treating painful conditions such as IBS, abdominal pain, bloating, heartburn, constipation, diarrhea, SIBO, and other digestive issues.

Dr. Albusoda is an active endoscopist. He performs a high-volume endoscopy every year. This helped him develop a thorough and comfortable technique. He uses innovative techniques such as transnasal endoscopy and underwater colonoscopy to minimize discomfort. His endoscopy lists often include patients with previously difficult, incomplete, or failed procedures.

Dr. Albusoda has extensive expertise in abdominal ultrasound (PgCert – King’s College London). He shares with patients live images of their relevant organs. Potentially this can save patients time, reduces anxiety, and provides faster results. Dr. Albusoda is also an expert in Gastrointestinal physiology tests such as high-resolution manometry, reflux studies, Bravo capsule, breath tests for SIBO, and gastric emptying. Dr. Albusoda is regarded as an excellent listener and communicator. He developed these skills during his extensive experience in tertiary (expert) neuro-gastroenterology clinics seeing difficult cases referred from across the country.

Dr. Albusoda remains actively involved in teaching and research. He currently holds an Honorary Senior Clinical Lectureship at Queen Mary University of London (The Wingate Institute for Neurogastroenterology, Barts and The London School of Medicine). His research training included the prestigious Marie Curie Training Network in neurogastroenterology (NEUROGUT). This was a multimillion-euro project funded by the European Commission to create the next generation of leaders in the field.

He did his Ph.D. under the world-renowned and the president of the European Society of Neurogastroenterolgy Professor Qasim Aziz in digestive pain. His Ph.D. thesis was titled ‘’Central Modulation of Visceral Pain Hypersensitivity’ which was awarded by the University of London.
