Agnieszka Slowik MD, PhD

Agnieszka Slowik MD, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow, Poland. She is also the Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the University Hospital in Krakow Poland.

Dr. Slowik received her undergraduate medical and specialty training in neurology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She also received twelve months of additional training in clinical neurology and in molecular genetics at the University of Rochester, NY. She is a member of the European Stroke Organization, and the American Neurological Association and is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology She is an author of over 180 research articles and has received numerous research and teaching awards.

Dr. Slowik’s research interests are focused on stroke, neurodegenerative disorders, and neuroimmunology. In 2012 she established a system-wide network for acute stroke treatment in southeast Poland that significantly increased the number of stroke patients in that region who were treated with thrombolytics and endovascular clot retrieval.

Dr. Slowik has been a member of the International Stroke Genetics Consortium since 2007. She has maintained a stroke data bank that includes clinical and genetic data from patients in southeast Poland. Information from this data bank has led to several key publications concerning stroke etiology and genetics.
