Agnes Sonnevend-Pal is an associate professor of microbiology at the College of Medicine, UAE University and consultant clinical microbiologist at Tawam Hospital, Al Ain. She obtained her Medical Degree at Semmelweis University Medical School, Budapest, Hungary and her Ph.D. degree at University of Pecs, Hungary. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Medical Microbiology. Before joining the UAE University, she had been the Head of the Microbiology Department of the South-Western Regional Institute of the National Public Health Service, Hungary. Her main research interest is the molecular epidemiology of various multiple antibiotic-resistant pathogens, e.g. MRSA, carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, and Acinetobacter baumanii.
She was awarded several research grants as principal investigator. To date she published 50 peer-reviewed articles in international scientific journals with a cumulative impact factor of 129.394, she is the author of several book chapters in textbooks of medical microbiology, and she is a co-editor of a case-book of clinical microbiology. Furthermore, she is a member of the scientific editorial board of the Communicable Diseases Bulletin of the Health Authority Abu Dhabi and she is a member of the UAE Federal Working Group on Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance.
